I love the Grand Hotel era of the 1920′s and 30′s with the beautiful garden rooms and palm courts. The whole style from the music to the decor was just so elegant – how I would love to have experienced those days. Palm court is definitely a strong theme in Ruby’s Place. Here is the Palm Court at the Ritz

I love palm trees. I have no idea why but they can really transform a room into something really exotic. I love winter Gardens, botanical gardens and the whole ambiance of the Palm Court era is a style I seem to recreate almost unconsciously. I love these images; Click them for the original context.

This dining room is just stunning – click the picture to see it in its original context. I would prefer this though with a black and white tiled floor. Otherwise just gorgeous!

Missing Biba

How I miss Biba!

In terms of elegance, style and just beautiful things nothing has ever matched it.

I was a 6th form art student when Biba was in it’s heyday and most weeks we would travel to London on some arts trip and always end up in Biaba’s. Bryan Ferry and David Bowie were the iconic singers at the time and I had just grown out of Jackie Magazine.

My tastes have grown up with me but somehow those days had a certain j’ne sais quoi which continues to influence me.
